Preparing, Cooking and Storing Sweet Corn
Sweet corn is quick and versatile to prepare. Below you will find the cooking time, the difference from field corn, and how best to prepare and store our pre-cooked, vacuum-packed organic cobs.
How do you prepare sweet corn?
Boil fresh cobs for 5 to 8 minutes in unsalted water; salt makes the kernels tough. Our vacuum-packed cobs are already sterilised and therefore pre-cooked: briefly heating them in hot water or on the BBQ is enough.
How long should sweet corn be boiled?
Fresh sweet corn is done in 5 to 8 minutes. Add salt, butter or seasoning only after cooking. Our pre-cooked vacuum cobs only need reheating, about 2 to 3 minutes.
What is the difference between sweet corn and field corn?
Sweet corn is harvested young, while the kernels are still sweet and soft and the sugar has not yet turned to starch. Ordinary (field) corn ripens on into a hard, starchy kernel used for animal feed or flour.
How do you store sweet corn?
Fresh cobs keep for a few days in the fridge. Our vacuum-packed, sterilised cobs keep unopened for up to six months without refrigeration; once opened, store briefly in the fridge.
